No shame in buying new

Good morning ☕️🤍On my mind this morning is the worry (I worry and overthink ALOT) that with all this talk of refashioning, and promoting the reuse of existing materials, people might feel “bashed” for ever buying new. (I would hate for anyone to feel that) Or have the impression my entire existence is some pre loved perfection with an A grade for sustainability. It isn’t. These sofas are new. For a multitude of reasons I won’t bore you with, we opted to invest in new to meet our needs for this purchase. It’s very easy to give (& get) a false impression based on social media output. None of us are doing this perfectly. (Be sceptical of the ppl who tell you they are).So I want to be clear.☆There are absolutely valid reasons for buying new things.☆ And sometimes that reason can be as simple as not having the mental or emotional bandwidth to even think about it. Our tanks run dry. The reality is that life can be HARD. And for MANY people right now it’s f**king hard. Financially yes. But also mentally & emotionally. I’m fortunate enough to be in an OK position right now (FOR now). But I remember vividly and viscerally the lack of space for being “mindful” when every ounce of your being is consumed with simply surviving the day, dodging debt collectors and getting your family’s most basic needs met, with little or no money or time.Having the headspace to even think about this stuff is a privilege. Having the time to slow down and “be mindful” is a privilege. Having space to sew is a privilege. And people should never feel shame (or be shamed) for lacking a privilege they are currently excluded from. We can only do the best we can, with what we have, in each moment or phase of our lives. This huge problem that we face ? It’s not all on you (or me) to fix it. And the shame for it belongs squarely on the shoulders of the corporations (and governments) promoting a system that is destroying the planet, and lives, for 💰 Do what you can, with what you have, *when you are able*. Save the shaming for the @r$€holes laying waste to our planet to line their own pockets. Ultimately, it’s that system we need to pull down. Not eachother.
